JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MONBUKAGAKUSHO) SCHOLARSHIP

The Government of Japan provides international students around the world with an opportunity of pursuing higher studies in Japanese Universities and Colleges under the "Monbukagakusho" scholarship scheme.

Under this scheme students may apply for Undergraduate scholarships.

In the Maldives the Japanese Government "Monbukagakusho" scholarship is channeled through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Male. The Foreign Ministry advertises this scholarship and invites applications from prospective candidates resident in the Maldives.

Thereafter, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will screen these applications and forward a list of eligible candidates to the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka based upon the criteria of eligibility. Selected candidates will be requested to sit for a qualifying examination in the Republic of Maldives conducted by the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Thereafter, candidates who pass the written examination will be invited for a personal interview by the Embassy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Male. Successful candidates at the interview would be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to the relevant authority in Japan for due consideration. Final selection and awarding of the scholarship is made by the relevant authorities in Japan.
