CULTURAL EXCHANGES Cultural exchange beyond borders is an indispensable activity to deepen understanding among the peoples, promote mutual respect for each other and to further enrich cultures. It also serves to smoothen relations in the fields of politics as well as economic activity. Many people in Sri Lanka are keenly interested in Japan for its diversified and rich culture and they are enthusiastic in learning Japanese language and culture. On the other hand, in Sri Lanka, there are many historic and valuable sites, relics and nature reserves including seven world heritage sites. Sri Lanka is also blessed with various religions including Buddhism, beautiful traditions, life styles, arts and entertainment, etc. Various cultural as well as people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Sri Lanka have taken place in past years, a few of which have been featured in the "Episodes of our bilateral relations ". Furthermore, some of the good examples of bilateral cultural exchanges which are currently contributing to the widening and deepening of our cultural relations are also featured on this page. In 2012, Japan and Sri Lanka will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations and will mark this important milestone with several cultural events next year. |
