The Government of Japan provides international students around the world with an opportunity of pursuing higher studies in Japanese Universities and Colleges under the "Monbukagakusho" scholarship scheme.

Under this scheme students may apply for College of Technology, Undergraduate or Post Graduate Research scholarships.

In Sri Lanka the Japanese Government "Monbukagakusho" scholarship is channeled through the Ministry of Higher Education, No.18, Ward Place, Colombo 7. The Higher Education Ministry advertises this scholarship and invites applications from prospective candidates from Sri Lanka.

Thereafter, the Ministry of Higher Education will screen these applications and forward a list of eligible candidates to the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka. Selected candidates will be requested to sit for a qualifying examination in Sri Lanka conducted by the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Thereafter, these candidates will be invited for a personal interview by the Embassy. Candidates who pass the written examination and are successful at the interview would be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to the relevant authority in Japan for due consideration.
