Disaster Relief Assistance to Sri Lanka in response to the collapse of Meethotamulla garbage fill

On April 15, Mr. Shinzo Abe, the Prime Minister of Japan has sent his message to the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickremesinghe, expressing his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the government and affected people who have been suffering from losses and damages caused the collapse of Meethotamulla garbage fill, and wishing for rapid rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected area. Prime Minister Abe also conveyed Japan’s readiness to provide disaster relief assistance to Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, today the Government of Japan has decided to provide emergency relief goods (portable jerry cans, tents, sleeping pads, water purifier, generator) to Sri Lanka through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in response to the request from Sri Lanka.
