The Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentarians’ League Sends Relief Goods to Flood and Landslide Victims in Sri Lanka

780 bottles of fruit and vegetable juices have been sent from the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentarian League, chaired by Mr. Wataru Takeshita, Member of the Parliament of the House of Representative, Japan, to the victims of natural disaster in Sri Lanka, especially the children. 
 
The Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentarian league is an all-party Japanese parliamentary group set up to strengthen relationship of parliamentarians between Japan and Sri Lanka. 

The Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Kenichi Suganuma, handed over relief goods to Sri Lankan Government Officials at a Handover Ceremony on June 21, 2017.  

Minister of Disaster Management of Sri Lanka- Hon. Anura Priyadhashana Yapa, and Chairman of the Sri Lanka - Japan Parliamentary Friendship Association - Hon. Naveen Dissanayake attended the Handover Ceremony.  

Mr. Takeshita, Chairman of the Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentarians League, held the position of Minister for Reconstruction during the period after the Great East Japan Earthquake took place. He paved the way for speedy disaster-resilient reconstruction of the disaster hit regions. The Japan-Sri Lanka Parliamentarian League is particularly concerned with the children hit by the disaster. In the hope of expediting their recovery, the League sent fruit and vegetable juices. 

 Mr. Takeshita has stated that he would be grateful if his hope for a “disaster-resilient reconstruction of Sri Lanka” is relayed to the children of the disaster-hit areas in Sri Lanka. 

Immediately after the natural disaster, the Government of Japan sent emergency relief goods such as tents, sleeping pad, power generator and water purifier.  These were handed over to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Disaster Management of Sri Lanka on May 31, 2017.

On June 3, 2017, The Government of Japan dispatched a Japanese Disaster Relief Expert Team to Sri Lanka. The team consisted of experts on landslide disaster, flood disaster, etc. They carried out thorough assessment of the disaster and the damages, and submitted its final report, including recommendations, to the Government of Sri Lanka.  

The People and the Government of Japan stands with the People and the Government of Sri Lanka and further strengthen the bilateral ties between two nations.
