Japan confers a prestigious decoration on Mr. Frederick Medis

On 3rd November 2017, the Government of Japan announced the conferment of “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon” upon Mr. Frederick Medis, past President of Lanka – Japan Friendship Society, in recognition of his significant contribution to the promotion of Japanese Culture in Sri Lanka.
A congratulatory message was sent by Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on 3rd November upon the announcement, stating “Please accept my sincerest congratulations on the conferment of the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, in recognition of your outstanding contribution, and my best wishes for your continued good health and happiness.”
Mr. Medis, one of the most successful Antiquities Consultant, is a founder member of the Lanka – Japan Friendship Society since 1956, when it was established in order to convey the authentic Japanese Culture to the people in Sri Lanka.
In 1981, based on his broad knowledge about antiques, Mr. Medis assisted the Lanka – Japan Friendship Society to organize and arrange an Exhibition of Japanese porcelain at Galadari-Hotel in Colombo. Among the hundreds of visitors, Reigning Emperor Akihito as Crown Prince, with Crown Princess Michiko were present, while on stay in Sri Lanka at that moment. After Mr. Medis was appointed President of the Lanka – Japan Friendship Society in July 2008, he took the initiative in organizing many cultural activities related to Japan with his distinguished leadership.
Until his retirement in 2011, his leadership and contribution as the President enabled the Lanka – Japan Friendship Society to maintain and develop its reputation as the most active and cooperative organization related to Japan in Sri Lanka.
