Japanese Cultural Fair 2019 was held atArcade Independence Square

The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with the Japanese Solidarity Association and the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association in Sri Lanka, organized Japanese Cultural Fair 2019 at Arcade, Independence Square Colombo-07 on Saturday, March 2, 2019.
During the fair, “the 25th Bunka Awards 2019 Presentation Ceremony” was held with Hon. Sajith Premadasa, M.P. Minister of Housing, Construction & Cultural Affairs gracing the occasion as the chief guest. This award was established in 1993 by the Japan Sri Lanka Friendship Cultural Fund, which has been enhancing the friendship between Sri Lanka and Japan through facilitating mutual understanding of respective culture and arts. Following five artists, with various cultural achievements, are decorated with this prestigious honour this year.
- Dr. Indika Ferdinando : Drama, Film (Director)
- Ms. Selvaraj Leelawathy : Drama (Actress, Director, Choreographer)
- Mr. Anuja Madushanka De Silva : Film & Advertising (Graphic Designer of Special Effects)
- Ms. Thajithangani Dias : Dancer (Kyandian)
- Dr. Priyantha Udagedara :Painting & Visual Art
The Presentation Ceremony was followed by Japanese Cultural Show, which blended traditional martial arts with trendy J-Pop & Cosplay Show, and the screening of all-time popular Japanese animation film “Spirited Away-Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi”. Over 1,000 people visited the fair and savored the richness of Sri Lankan and Japanese cultures, performed by various Sri Lankan talents, fused together in the refreshing evening air.
