Japanese traditional musicians fascinate Sri Lankan musical fans

2022/12/15

Two prominent Japanese traditional musicians, Ms. Nami Makioka and Ms. Momoko Ibusuki, visited Sri Lanka from 8th to 12th December and performed live concerts on several occasions.

They gave performances at the University of Kelaniya, Lanka Nippon BizTech Institute (LNBTI), Bon-odori festival at National Youth Services Council, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Foundation Institute and Seyki Kindergarten during the visit. Ms. Makioka displayed astonishing vocal prowess while playing Shamisen, three-stringed traditional Japanese musical instrument, and Ms. Ibusuki performed choral music on the Taiko, Japanese traditional percussion instrument. The audience was enthused by the performances and had the chance to experience an entirely new vibe of music.

Their performances at these events enhanced the cultural exchange between Japanese and Sri Lankan people and highlighted the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.
