Ambassador MIZUKOSHI Directly Conveyed His Robust Commitment to Help Sri Lankan Farmers

On 10th August, during his visit to Jaffna, Ambassador Mizukoshi participated in the hand-over ceremony of urea fertilizers at Chavakachcheri Agrarian Services Center. Ms. Charles, the Governor of the Northern Province, and Mr. Vimlendra Sharan, FAO Representative to Sri Lanka and the Maldives also attended it.
This initiative worth of 4.63 million US dollars aims to address the difficulties in accessing fertilizers due to the economic crisis and targets approximately 228,000 small-scale farmers with less than 1 hectare of land in the intermediate and dry zones. The distribution of urea fertilizer is funded by the Government of Japan and being facilitated through FAO.
Ambassador Mizukoshi reiterated his strong commitment to help local farmers at the occasions of the direct discussions with smallholder paddy farmers and his speech at the event.
This assistance is expected to contribute to enhancing agricultural productivity during the upcoming Maha cultivation season starting in October.
