Ambassador MIZUKOSHI handed over the chicks to local women in Vavuniya for the improvement of livelihood

H. E. MIZUKOSHI visited a Japan-funded project site in Vavuniya on 9 Aug. The 2.8-mil USD livelihood project is implemented by UNDP and supports the local women through poultry farming which covers 7 districts and 8,000 rural women.


Ambassador handed over newly born lovely chicks to local farmers and observed the chicken farming facility, including an artificial incubator, a grinding mill for chick feed etc. The ongoing project to promote the economic recovery and support vulnerable communities in rural areas of Sri Lanka.


UNDP and the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for Japan’s support and Ambassador’s visit. Ambassador MIZUKOSHI recognized the serious impact of the economic crisis, hoping the Government’s debt restructuring will succeed, and reiterated the Japan’s commitment to countinuous support for recovery and enhancement of livelihood for the rural regions including the Northern Province.
