First Joint Committee Meeting of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Japan and Sri Lanka

On 13 October 2023, the first meeting of the Joint Committee of the Joint Crediting Mechanism (JCM) between Japan and Sri Lanka was held. Following the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation concerning the JCM on 10 October 2022, this meeting has laid the foundation for the implementation of the JCM by setting up the specific JCM rules.


During the Joint Committee (JC), the Rules of Procedures for the JC was adopted, followed by the appointment of Co-chairs: Mr. Kotaro Katsuki, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Japan from the Japanese side, and Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment from the Sri Lankan side. The JC also adopted the rules and guidelines for the implementation of the JCM consistent with Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. Furthermore, the review of the Project Idea Note (PIN) for a planned JCM project was conducted, which is expected to be the first JCM project in Sri Lanka.


Embassy of Japan has held seminars to promote JCM project within Sri Lanka. Japan continues to contribute to sustainable economic growth in Sri Lanka through support in the fields of environment and energy.
