On 15th February, H. E. MIZUKOSHI Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka attended the handover ceremony of renewable energy technologies including solar powered backpack sprayers, water pumps and cool room to Farmer Organizations in Puttalam.

This provision has been implemented under the project "Enhancing Food and Energy Security through the Promotion of Green Technologies and Renewable Energy for Wider Uptake among Vulnerable Smallholder Farmers in Sri Lanka," funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by UNDP. This project will support the agricultural sector facing the shortage of power and energy, enhancing food and energy security through the utilization of renewable energy, with funding amounting to 1 million UDS.

Ambassador Mizukoshi extended his sincere hope that this support will contribute to sustainable development of the small and medium-scale farmers and help farmers deepen their understanding of the importance of sustainable agriculture in consideration of the global environment, hence setting an important milestone in the promotion of renewable energy utilization in Sri Lanka. He expressed his commitment to continue to provide necessary support and cooperation for Sri Lanka’s development, further deepening our long-standing friendship with Sri Lanka.
