Mrs. Shiromi Soosaipillai Honoured with “Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays”

On 12 March 2024, H.E. Mr. MIZUKOSHI Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, conferred the "Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays" on Mrs. Shiromi Soosaipillai, President of Ikebana International Sri Lanka Chapter 262, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the promotion of Japanese Ikebana culture in Sri Lanka.

Mrs. Shiromi Soosaipillai, the current President of Ikebana International Sri Lanka Chapter 262, began her journey with the Sogetsu School of Ikebana in 1983. In 2001, Mrs. Soosaipillai joined the Shi-en Ikebana and Floral Art Society of Sri Lanka, where she held various positions, including President. In 2007, Ikebana International Sri Lanka Chapter 262 was formed by members of the Shi-en Ikebana and Floral Art Society of Sri Lanka and Mrs. Soosaipillai was instrumental in the formation of the Chapter.

Ambassador MIZUKOSHI praised Mrs. Soosaipillai for her tireless efforts in promoting the Japanese Ikebana culture in Sri Lanka and for teaching the spirit and techniques of Ikebana to the people of Sri Lanka for more than a decade, thus raising the standard of Ikebana skills in the country. Ambassador MIZUKOSHI emphasized that her commitment extends beyond the country's borders as she actively participates in international Ikebana conferences and showcases her work through exhibitions and demonstrations around the world.

"The Order of the Rising Sun” is awarded by His Imperial Majesty the Emperor of Japan to foreign nationals who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of friendly relations with Japan.
It is hoped that this auspicious event will further develop bilateral relationship between Japan and Sri Lanka.
