Japan-Sri Lanka Foreign Minister’s Working Dinner

On May 4, following the bilateral meeting held in the afternoon, commencing at 7:30 p.m. (local time; 11:00 p.m. JST) for approximately one hour and 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, attended a working dinner hosted by Hon. M.U.M. Ali Sabry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The overview is as follows.

The two Ministers held a candid exchange of views on regional affairs, including the situation in East Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Ukraine, and concurred on maintaining close communication between the two countries.

The two Ministers also exchanged views on global issues, Minister Kamikawa stated that she has been promoting the concept of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) with extraordinary passion since assuming her post and noting that Japan and Sri Lanka are partners in the G7 WPS Partnership Initiative, Japan would like to further strengthen cooperation in the area of WPS in the future. In response to this, Foreign Minister Sabry expressed his gratitude for the support from Japan in the WPS area so far and stated that Sri Lanka would like to maintain cooperation. The two Ministers also concurred on deepening cooperation on global issues including strengthening of the functions of the UN, including the Security Council reform.
