Foreign Minister Kamikawa Conveyed the Decision to Provide Sonar-Equipped Vessel to Sri Lanka

On May 4th, Hon. Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, held a foreign ministers’ meeting with Hon. M.U.M. Ali Sabry, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
 
Minister Kamikawa stated, “Japan and Sri Lanka are both island nations surrounded by the sea. Amid the severe international situation in recent years, Japan intends to further strengthen cooperation with Sri Lanka in the maritime domain in order to realize a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific."”
 
In this regard, based on the request from Sri Lanka, Minister Kamikawa has conveyed to Minister Sabry that Japan would offer a vessel equipped with a sonar to be used for compiling a maritime chart.
 
Minister Kamikawa also expressed her hope that Sri Lanka, surrounded by this beautiful sea, would bring itself back on track for economic development as soon as possible and make further progress as a hub in the Indian Ocean.
