Japan Supports Road Construction in Kotiyagala Village to Improve Accessibility
2025/3/25

On 25th March, during his official trip to Uva Province, H.E. Mr. Akio ISOMATA, Ambassador of Japan, attended the handover ceremony of a 2.5 km-long public road in Kotiyagala village, Monaragala District.

This road has been constructed through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), in order to improve accessibility.

Monaragala District remains one of Sri Lanka’s least developed regions, with limited infrastructure and economic opportunities. In Kotiyagala village, residents have long relied on an unpaved road to access essential services in a neighbouring village. Poor road conditions, especially during the rainy season, have hindered school attendance, healthcare access, and economic activities. This new road enables local residents to access safer and more efficient transportation, improving daily life for the community.

At the ceremony, Ambassador ISOMATA reaffirmed Japan’s unwavering commitment to working closely with the people of Sri Lanka to meet their needs, emphasising that the foundation of Sri Lanka’s sustainable development is the active engagement of each individual.
