The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka, in collaboration with Sanrio Company, Ltd., organised two promotional programmes as part of Sanrio’s social contribution initiative, the “Sanrio Nakayoku Project,” to introduce the globally beloved Japanese character “Hello Kitty” to Sri Lankan students.
The events were held at St. Joseph’s Girls’ School, Nugegoda on 19th May, and at Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Colombo, on 20th May with nearly 500 enthusiastic students.

Students learned about Sanrio’s history and its world-famous character “Hello Kitty”, engaged in creative drawing activities. The highlight of the programme was a surprise appearance by “Hello Kitty” herself, which delighted the students very much and brought unforgettable memories by taking photos and high-touch with “Hello Kitty”.

Sanrio Company, Ltd. also shared its “Sanrio Character Aid” initiative, in which “Hello Kitty” visits hospitals where children are receiving treatment for various illnesses.
These initiatives reflect Sanrio’s dedication to bringing joy and comfort to children through the power of “Hello Kitty”.

These dreamful programmes earmarked as a good step to introduce Japanese Characters in Sri Lanka, while promoting the charm of Japanese “Kawaii” culture.
