Visit by Mr. Kenji HARADA, State Minister of Defense of Japan

    Japanese State Minister of Defense, Mr. Kenji HARADA, visited Sri Lanka from 25 to 26 July.
 
    During his stay, State Minister Harada paid a courtesy call on H.E. Maithripara Sirisena, the President of Sri Lanka and met the Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene, State Minster of Defence to discuss defense cooperation between two countries. Both Ministers signed “Memorandum on Defense Cooperation and Exchanges”, which facilitates and develops cooperation and exchanges in the field of defense on the basis of mutual interest.
 
    From the viewpoint of securing the freedom and security of navigation and flight, the Government of Japan will promote cooperation with Sri Lanka, which is located at a strategically important point in the Indian Ocean. Such cooperation includes high-level exchanges, capacity building assistance and consultations.
 
     State Minister Harada offered flowers at St. Anthony’s shrine and Shangri-La Hotel to express his deepest condolences to the victims of the Easter Sunday attacks.
