Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor at the Seiden (State Hall) of the Imperial Palace

On October 22, 1st Year of Reiwa (2019), Sokuirei-Seiden-no-gi (Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor at the Seiden (State Hall)) was solemnly observed at the Imperial Palace. On this auspicious occasion, His Majesty the Emperor proclaimed the enthronement and received felicitations from representatives from both Japan and abroad, including foreign heads of state and other dignitaries.
 
The Ceremony was followed by Kyoen-no-gi (Court Banquet) which was also held at the Imperial Palace, to celebrate the enthronement and receive the congratulations from the guests on His Majesty’s accession to the throne.
 
At Sokuirei-Seiden-no-gi, His Majesty the Emperor, in His address, stated that:
 
“I pledge hereby that I shall act according to the Constitution and fulfill my responsibility as the symbol of the State and of the unity of the people of Japan, while always wishing for the happiness of the people and the peace of the world, turning my thoughts to the people and standing by them.
 
I sincerely hope that our country, through our people’s wisdom and unceasing efforts, achieves further development and contributes to the friendship and peace of the international community and the welfare and prosperity of humankind.”
 
H.E. President Maithripala Sirisena and Madame Sirisena attended Sokuirei-Seiden-no-gi as well as Kyoen-no-gi, representing the government and the people of Sri Lanka. The highest courtesy accorded by the Government of Sri Lanka, that symbolizes time-honored friendship between the two countries, was deeply appreciated by the government and the people of Japan.
