JMSDF ships “JS URAGA” and “JS HIRADO” visit Colombo

The Indo-Pacific and Middle East Deployment 21 (IMED21) unit of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), which is composed of “JS URAGA” and “JS HIRADO”, made a goodwill visit to the Colombo Port from 1st to 3rd March, 2022.
The purpose of the deployment is to improve tactical skills, enhance cooperative relationships with foreign navies and contribute to ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific and Middle East region as well as to develop greater mutual understanding and trust through conducting joint exercises, whichwill contribute to realizing a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
As maritime nations with time-honored friendship, Sri Lanka and Japan have been working closely to promote peace, stability and prosperity of the Indian Ocean, in the heart of which Sri Lanka is located.
The Sri Lanka Navy and JMSDF conducted a friendship exercise on 28th February showcasing their long cultivated friendly relationship where they improved tactical capabilities while further strengtheningthe bilateral naval ties, which will contribute to ensuring safety and security of the Indian Ocean, as well as peace and prosperity of the region, which is a holding pillar of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific”.
