Japanese Government Scholarship 2015
(Monbukagakusho) – MEXT
The Government of Japan will award scholarships to Sri Lankan Students under the Monbukagakusho (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology:MEXT) Scholarship scheme 2015, in the categories of Postgraduate Research, Undergraduate and College of Technology. The closing date for applications to the Ministry of Higher Education is on 23rd May 2014. Selection of candidates will be done through an examination conducted jointly by the Japanese Embassy and the Ministry of Higher Education.
Prospective candidates are kindly requested to forward their applications to the Ministry of Higher Education, No. 18, Ward Place, Colombo 07. Application forms can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of Higher Education. Application forms downloaded from the website of the Government of Japan will not be accepted for the preliminary processing. Applicants who have only passed G.C.E. A Level should apply for ONE SCHEME ONLY (Either Undergraduate or College of Technology).

Orientation for Monbukagakusho Research Students
The Japanese Government has awarded higher education scholarships to 20 Sri Lankan students under its Monbukagakusho Scholarship Scheme. 20 students were directly recommended by each University and 6 students were recommended by the Japanese Embassy.
An orientation program was held for the selected students at the Embassy office on Friday, 23rd August 2013, presided over by Mr.Daiji Sasai , First Secretary for Cultural Exchange and Public relations Affairs of the Embassy with the participation of two members of the Japanese Graduates Alumni Association of Sri Lanka (JAGAAS), Dr. Kumudunie Dissanayake who is Senior Lecture of University of Colombo, Mr.S.M.G.Iroshana, and Present Monbukagakusho students Mr.Milantha de Silva belonging to Hiroshima University and Ms. Helanka Weerasekara belonging to Imizu College of Technology.
Senior Scholars shared their experience with fresh students and provided necessary information before their departure. Many interactions were doe such as “questions 7 answers” between the returned students and the newly elected students ranging from the preparation for the departure for different degrees of study and fields to the university challenges and the way to cope up with daily life in Japan. Many of the participants told the Embassy that the meeting was very fruitful and provided a lot of helps to newly elected scholars.
The Government of Japan provides international students around the world with an opportunity of pursuing higher studies in Japanese universities and colleges under the Monbukagakusho scholarship scheme annually.
Japanese Government Monbukagakusho Scholarships

The Government of Japan provides international students around the world with an opportunity of pursuing higher studies in Japanese Universities and Colleges under the "Monbukagakusho" scholarship scheme. Under this scheme students may apply for College of Technology, Undergraduate or Post Graduate Research scholarships.
In Sri Lanka the Japanese Government "Monbukagakusho" scholarship is channeled through the Ministry of Higher Education, No.18, Ward Place, Colombo 7. The Higher Education Ministry advertises this scholarship and invites applications from prospective candidates from Sri Lanka. Thereafter, the Ministry of Higher Education will screen these applications and forward a list of eligible candidates to the Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka. Selected candidates will be requested to sit for a qualifying examination in Sri Lanka conducted by the Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka. Thereafter, these candidates will be invited for a personal interview by the Embassy. Candidates who pass the written examination and are successful at the interview would be recommended by the Embassy of Japan to the relevant authority in Japan for due consideration.
